need help after 1st night, nose-mouth mask, Respironics REMstar Auto-C (Part 2 of 3)

I just got my Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex, and I was able to sleep on my back for the first time in 15 years! So - no back pain when I woke up! And I do feel slightly more refreshed.

It was my first night, and I'm wondering if some things could have gone better. First of all, I opted for the nose-and-mouth covering mask (I have had UPPP tonsil surgery, so I wanted to prevent mouth-leaking). I've wondered if any leaks could have occurred overnight.

Also, I woke up (just before dawn) with absolute dry-mouth. I suppose this means the reservoir needs to be filled with more distilled water?

I do appreciate the video clips on this web site. Does Respironics offer any DVDs or other instructional information? I just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my CPAP device.

• I personally have not seen any instructional DVD from Respironics. Call them at 1800-345-6443. Ask them also if they would provide a home use software to read the Data Card.

It won't hurt to ask. :)

• Dry Mouth - Raise the heater setting on the Heated Humidifier.

• If the Dry Mouth problem persist :

a) Have the Home Care Company show you how to set your CPAP Heated Humidifier in “Classic” mode and not in System One Mode. You will get a lot more humidification.

b) If (a) does not meet your needs, then ask your Sleep Specialist to prescribe an AutoCPAP that can utilize a Heated CPAP Tubing. In essence exchange your current one for one that has a heated circuit. ….example Respironics DS560 TS with Heated tubing. & Resmed S9 Autoset with Climate Line Tubing.
